Examples chiefly produced from title pages, borders, and head and tail pieces of 16th century books, portraits, seals, binding, etc. Preface signed W.S.M. in monogram. Back of title page has arms of the editor. The handsome reproductions, printed in red and black, are from a variety os sources including 16th century books. Many were designed by famous masters such as Albrecht Durer, Hans Burgkmair, Geoffry Tory, Hans Sebald Behaim, Virgilius Solis, Sebastian Serlio, Antonio and Juan Darphe, Jobst Ammon and Tobias Stimmer. Among the eminent personages to whom the devices correspond are Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain, Pope Leo X, Emperor Charles V, Don Juan of Austria and Lord Burghley.
